 Dishwashers FAQ

Which dishwasher manufacturer should I choose?

As with wachine machines, there are a wide variety of choice, but at first glance it is a little harder to see why some are more expensive than others. Genearally, this will be down to the dishwasher build quality or features.

What is a typical price for a dishwasher?

Dishwasher prices are reflected by build quality and functions. The better quality dishwashers, such as Miele or Siemens will have features that will not appear on cheaper dishwashers, such as aqua stop (anti flood system) and sensors to reduce water usage. When discussing the features of dishwashers with a salesman, do question whether the price is justified.

What dishwasher features should I look for?

Dishwashers
The most common dishwasher features will either be the number of temperatures or programmes. Anti flood systems are handy to have and some dishwasher manufactures will have sensors that will monitor water usage for better economy. Miele dishwashers have the unique flat cutlery and some will have digital displays indicating remaining wash times. A rule of thumb is generally more features = higher prices. Please note that all dishwashers use a cold water connection only and require a waste pipe to connect to (the same as washing machines).

What size dishwasher should I go for?

There are 3 types:

- Regular size 60cm wide
- Slimline 45cm wide
- Table top (a smaller unit designed to sit on a kitchen worktop)

Each dishwasher size, however, will accomodate a certain amount. Generally, full size (regular) is 12 -14 place, slimline 8 - 9 place and tabletop 4 - 6 place.

TIP: You should always keep the salt and rinse aid topped up in your dishwasher. Some of the new generation of tablets and powders on the market already contain these agents, but most manufacturers recommend still keeping salt and rinse aid in the machine.

What are the dishwasher energy ratings?

Dishwashers are measured on 3 fronts: energy usage, washing performance and drying performance, so you will see, for example, 'AAA' or 'ABC' etc.

AAA or AAA+ is the best.
